Bipolar Ionisation -Enjoys Resurgence

Bipolar Ionisation (BPI) has been around for a long time. It arrived in the States in the 1970s and was largely used in the food manufacturing sector to help reduce bacteria, viruses and mould. It is now enjoying a resurgence in popularlity with the onset of the Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic as the world scrambles to find solutions to keep themselves, their staff and customers safe. It has already been proven effective against Sars, norovirus and other influenza strains.

AMV Systems is delighted to partner with Gibbons Engineering Group to sell, market and install 4 needlepoint ion generators.  BPI products are mounted on in centralised air conditioning systems. Ions are drawn through the coil and keep the coil clean as it kills bacteria, mould and viruses thus removing the annual need to clean the cooling coil and drain pan.  The journey of the ion continues through the ducting system, cleaning it as it makes it way to its final destination in the building to expell quality air.

In addition the ions remove harmful small particules from the air, often too small for the filter to remove. As in nature, when air flows through the system, it results in the formation of millions of of negative and positive ions which clump the particles together. These larger particles are then more easily filtered out.

BPI is excellent at removing odors like cigarette smoke, foul sewer smells or ammonia smells. It is simple and easy to install in new or existing AHUs. BPI is totally automatic and chemical free and can operate independently or as part of an integrated system.

Why UVC Technology is More Important than Ever

UVC Technology is more important today than it has ever been. One of the key messages in the 5 phase roadmap issued by the Government to re-open the Irish economy, is that preventative measures will save lives.  This will be achieved by reducing the spread of the Coronavirus/Covid-19 and protecting the vulnerable. This by no means an easy task, but thankfully help is at hand.

Returning to the workplace post Coronavirus/Covid-19 poses a challenge to small and large businesses alike. Whilst collaboration between the employer and employee will help realise a safe and healthy working environment, the overarchng burden falls to the employer to provide the mechanism to do so.HSE Advice on reducing spread of Coronavirus- Covid-19

To prevent the spread of the Coronavirus/Covid-19 in our workplace, it is essential that good hygiene etiquette is maintained and that social distancing is adhered to.

An additional preventative measure is to ensure that good air quality is circulated throughout your premises. UVC inactivates bacteria, mould and viruses, including Coronavirus/Covid-19, within the biofilm that can build up in coils in Air handling Units.

The Total Coil Disinfection (TCD) System is the go-to UVC technology that delivers 24/7 non-invasive disinfection level cleaning regime for cooling coils in AHU’s.

AMV Systems, with our partner Gibbons Engineering Group, model our TCD systems to irradiate the full face of the coil killing the growth of viruses (including the Coronavirus/Covid-19) and reinstating system performance to as built. The proven method of biofilm eradicaton is Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI)

EHS Manager Sean Rath completes 10K Run in the Dark Charity Challenge

EHS Manager Completes 10K Run in the Dark Charity Challenge

A massive well done to Sean Rath, EHS Manager AirconMech and AMV Systems, who achieved his couch to 10k run in style for the Run in the Dark Charity Challenge which took place last night from Wexford Quay. Thankfully the rain didn’t materialise on this bitterly cold night.

This poignant event raises much-needed funds for the Mark Pollock Trust. Many of you will know Mark as the adventure athlete who competed in ultra-endurance races following the loss of his sight in 1998. In fact, he was the first blind person to race to the south pole. Tragically in 2010, Mark fell from a second-story window which nearly killed him. He broke his back leaving him paralysed. Mark’s new expedition is to cure paralysis in our lifetime.

Well done again Sean! You did yourself and us proud!

Its all “Rosey” at AMV Systems for this Winter

Caroline Buckley receives delivery of Ion Herbal Tonics from Dr Aoife Kelly #WellnessatworkIt’s hard to believe that a year has passed since we received our first delivery of íon Herbal Tonics as part of AMV System’s #Wellnessatwork programme, the last tonic in our current programme. “Rosehips Health Tonics contain Organic Rosehips, Organic Echinacea & Organic Cranberries. These are potent herbs that are shown to support the immune system. Rosehips are one of the best plant sources of vitamin C, having eight times more Vitamin C than an orange!” says Dr Aoife Kelly, Sales Director íon Herbal Tonics.  Dr Kelly goes on to say “Rose Hips are also uniquely rich in bioflavonoids, which are essential for the absorption of Vitamin C”.

Echinacea kickstarts immunity and is found to stop a cold or flu in its tracks, thanks to it’s antiviral properties. A review of 14 clinical trials found that taking Echinacea reduced the odds of developing a cold by 58%. In one of the 14 studies the researchers reviewed, Echinacea was taken alongside vitamin C. This combination reduced cold incidence by 86%. íon Rosehips HealthTonic is naturally abundant in Vitamin C and combined with Echinacea the formula works very well in warding off common winter illnesses.

Well that’s us fit and healthy for the winter season!

Air Conditioning Systems Maintenance

No doubt like us you looked forward to the warm, sunny, balmy weather to arrive. A flick of the Air Conditioning system would activate beautful cool air to counteract the sweltering heat ……No? Help is at hand though…… As market leaders in providing everything cooling, AMV Systems  personnel are fully qualified to carry out maintenance and repairs to just about all air conditioning systems nationwide. Our supplier relationships means we offer the latest in technological advances and the best in quality to keep your system running as efficiently as possible while keeping costs to a minimum. We also Supply & Hire Out Portable AC Units.

We maintain a wide range of Air Conditioning Systems including :

  • Split Systems
  • Multi Split Systems
  • VRV & VRF Systems
  • Close Control Units
  • Chillers
  • Rooftop Packages
  • Fan Coil Units
  • Building Management Systems

The Benefits of a Maintenance Programme

Dirty AC Filters

  • An air conditioner’s filters, coils and fins require regular maintenance for the unit to function effectively and efficiently throughout its years of service.
  • It is also important to make sure that your system is not leaking any dangerous refrigerants which could be harmful to the environment.
  • Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases.

“Without regular maintenance an air conditioner loses about 5% of its original efficiency for each year of operation.”

But studies show that with regular tune-ups a unit will maintain up to 95% of its’ original efficiency and will save you money by extending the unit’s life. This means that the cost of an annual tune-up is recovered very quickly in savings on your monthly electricity bill and reduced repair costs.

By having your air conditioning system regularly maintained by professional maintenance contractors such as AMV Systems you will:

    • Make savings on your energy bill
    • Reduce your repair bill
    • Maintain the efficiency of your system
    • Prolong the lifetime of your unit

Embracing Wellness at Work

Dr Aoife Kelly íon- Pure Herbal Health Tonics, outlined the benefits of her range of organic herbal tonics to AirconMech and AMV Systems staff members.

She explained that “regular health drinks contain synthetically-produced vitamins and a variety of additives. íon health tonics feature the best of nature and nothing else. Our drinks are 100% plant-based meaning the nutrients, vitamins and minerals are more bioavailable to you”

She told us that  all of her herbs are organic and ethically sourced. An example of this is that the ginger used comes from a farm in Eastern China where the philosophy of Daoism (farming in harmony with nature) is practiced and women and men receive equal payment.

Every tonic is made holistically with whole herbs. This means that all of the complimentary benefits of the herbs are intact in every tonic.
Speaking of the partnership with íon, John Dempsey, Group CEO AirconMech & AMV Systems, says “we are delighted to partner with Ion as we  recognise the overall benefits the íon range of tonics will deliver to our team over a 12 month period. We are particularly pleased that each person will complete a health consultation with Dr Kelly, ensuring a holistic approach to this element of our overall wellness programme. It’s also great to support a young Wexford company delivering a unique product to the market “

Stay Cool this summer, Get your AC Checked!

With the lovely hot weather we are having here in Ireland the last thing you want is for your Air Conditioning systems to breakdown!

Breakdowns are usually the result of poor maintenance, a build-up of dirt blocking the filters and placing excess pressure on the system to perform adequately. It reduces efficiency and adds unnecessary costs to your electricity bill and could result in a very costly repair or replacement.

Preventative Maintenance:

By having your Systems serviced at the start of the every summer you will greatly reduce the chances that your systems will breakdown, extend the lifespan of your units for many more summers to come and keep them running as efficiently as possible thereby reducing your energy consumption and bills.

“Without regular maintenance an air conditioner loses about 5% of its original efficiency for each year of operation.”

Not only that but by using an AC unit that has not been regularly maintained you are filtering dusty, allergen-filled air around your premises which can be harmful for the health of your personnel and create bad odours effecting your customer satisfaction.

Ban on R22 Gas comes into effect December 2014

Regulations on R22, January 2010:

Since January 1st 2010 the use of virgin R22 has been prohibited in the maintenance and servicing of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment due to the long lasting damage it causes to the environment and the ozone layer.

Furthermore, these regulations allow for heavy fines to be imposed on those in possession of a heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning system with a leakage of HCFC R22 Gas and current records of your systems performance must be available for inspection by an Environmental Officer. These records must be kept by a reputable RGI certified gas installer such as AMV Systems.

Complete Ban on R22, December 2014:

By the 31st of December 2014 there will be a complete ban on R22 refrigerant including reclaimed or recycled R22 and any systems operating on R22 refrigerant will be classified as ‘not serviceable’.

As this ban draws closer it may be worth considering upgrading your system. New advances in technology mean that existing pipework can be used with some new systems meaning less expense and less disruption to your premises plus with recent advances in technology, new systems are far more efficient and less energy demanding than older systems making them more financially viable.
